We're glad you're here. To begin your yoga journey with us, read through this page and FAQ section below, then register for one of our beginner series, classes, or special events.
Ahh Yoga regularly provides beginner's classes that are offered in 3-6-week sessions. You can also visit our Classes page and click the Beginner toggle to view all our other classes appropriate for beginners.
When you begin yoga, you do not need to be flexible. Let us repeat that, you do NOT need to be flexible! Increased flexibility will come with practice. You do not need to be in shape. Let us repeat that, you do NOT need to be in shape! You need to promise to listen to your body and to go to your edge, not past your edge. It is our job to offer you modifications so you can practice yoga in a way that feels right for you and your body. At Ahh Yoga we believe yoga is for every-body, meaning every body type, every level of ability.
Wear comfortable clothes (it can be helpful if your shirt can tuck into your pants; if that freaks you out, forget about it). You do not need to spend money on trendy, expensive, fancy-pant yoga togs, unless you just like to do that sort of thing. Typically, yoga is practiced in bare feet. You do not need to have a pretty pedicure, just clean feet.
You will need a yoga mat. You can purchase a yoga mat here in Springfield at any/all of the sporting goods stores, Walmart, Target, Barnes and Noble and TJ Maxx. When you are looking at the package/label, it will say yoga mat or sticky mat. If you don't have time or resources to purchase before the first class, we have mats you can borrow (we will ask you to clean the mat you borrow with our magic non-toxic mat cleaner).
We hold classes at several different locations in Springfield. The main Ahh Yoga studio is located at 2201 West White Oaks, Springfield. We also offer classes at the Springfield Running Center on the west side of town, and we offer classes at Springfield Clinic on the north side of town. Please check the schedule to determine where your class will be held.
We ask that people who are new to the studio arrive about fifteen minutes early the first night to complete a quick intake form and get settled in for your first class. We have restrooms where you can change your clothes and cubbies outside the studios to store your shoes and belongings. We recommend taking anything valuable into the studio with you and storing those items in the cubbies inside the studio.
It is preferable that you practice on a pretty empty stomach and that you are sober when you come to yoga. There are a lot of reasons for this; bottom line, it will just be better for everyone. We do offer hot tea, water and chocolate for after class.
